USA vs Germany, July 29th 1992
Barcelona 1992 marked the first time that NBA players could compete in men’s basketball at the Olympic Games. The USA responded by sending a “Dream Team” of superstars in what is considered one of the best sports teams ever assembled.
Widely credited with propelling the popularity of basketball internationally, the 1992 “Dream Team” captivated the world and dominated the Olympic tournament defeating its eight Olympic opponents by an average of 44 points en route to a gold medal.
The full USA Basketball “Dream Team” roster brought together Hall of Famers Charles Barkley, Larry Bird, Clyde Drexler, Patrick Ewing, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Christian Laettner, Karl Malone, Chris Mullin, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson and John Stockton. Chuck Daly served as head coach alongside assistant coaches P.J. Carlesimo, Mike Krzyzewski, and Lenny Wilkens.
