Excited to break ground on new SportsEngine Sport Court at U of M Children's Hospital
Over the past year, we’ve had the opportunity to foster a new (and growing) relationship with the University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. They are doing amazing things, not only in our community, but for patients and families from around the world. As part of our commitment to the hospital, SportsEngine employees have volunteered and actively participated in events at their facility, ultimately helping bring smiles to the faces of their patients. To say we have been inspired is an understatement. But now we are asking ourselves, “How can we do better? How can we do more?”
At SportsEngine, we believe that through sport, volunteers are able to teach the values of teamwork, respect and discipline to our youth, in the same way that volunteers have done for so many of us here at SportsEngine. In sport, the classroom is on the field, the court or at the rink. However, for each of the patients at University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, getting to the field, court or rink can be difficult at best, or in most cases impossible. An important value at SportsEngine is to “Boldly Embrace Change”. When we hear impossible, we see opportunity. Change is required, and we’re boldly embracing it.
Last Fall, a few of our employees asked what now seems like a very easy question. “What if we brought the court to the hospital?”. Walking through the halls of the U of M Children’s Hospital, we’ve seen athletes. We’ve seen heroes. And in our minds, we were seeing an opportunity that only comes around once in a lifetime.
Today, we couldn’t be more honored to announce that we’ve broken ground on the SportsEngine Sport Court at University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital. What was once impossible, will now be possible. In a few short months, these amazing athletes, who are an inspiration to each and every one of us, will be able to continue to learn the values of teamwork, respect and discipline. They’ll be able to strengthen friendships. They’ll be able to have fun. And they’ll be able to do it in the same way so many of us have, outside on the court.
