Thank you for visiting the web-site for our swim team, MICHIANA STARS. Why the name “MICHIANA STARS”?  First, “Michiana” refers to both our geographic area of NW Indiana and SW Michigan. Secondly, it is to show our respect to a historic, nationally respected local team, the “Michiana Marlins” of the 1980’s and 90’s. “Stars” reflects an athlete’s desire to excel, to become better, to improve.

We have dual club membership with both United States Swimming and the AAU. This enables us to have a very large insurance pool, and gives our athletes extra opportunities for competition. We utilize multiple facilities throughout the Michiana area. Currently, we use the Mishawaka HS (indoor 8 lane x 25yd. with diving well) as our home base. We also utilize Adams HS (indoor 6 lane x 25yd.) and the Merrifield Olympic Pool (outdoor 8 lane x 50m). Hopefully, we will be coming to a pool near you soon!

Our team is directed by our CEO/Head Coach, Danny Lucero-Dixon, and our COO Heather Dixon, with help from an Advisory Board and a parent run booster organization (Star Fleet). CEO Lucero-Dixon is an ASCA Level 3 coach with over a decade of coaching experience at the club, as well as high school levels, and has learned much from our founder and previous CEO Mike Anderson. Anderson is an ASCA Level 5 coach and has over 35 years of elite level coaching at all levels, including club, high school, and university. With 12 Olympians (including Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalists), World, NCAA, and American Record Holders, NCAA Top 16 team finishes at 3 universities, 9 state HS Team Championships, and dozens of NCAA and high school All-Americans, he has inspired many and shared a wealth of knowledge. With the experience of Anderson's teachings and his own vast pool of experience, Lucero-Dixon has the vision and ability to guide our program.

Our goal is to provide the youth of the area with a fun, positive experience focusing on superb technique and continual development.  Our direction is outlined by the following:

To empower young people to be successful people and champions in life through excellence in swimming.  We do this by fostering a positive environment and a challenging FUN program, so that each member can reach their full potential.

Make STARS the “epicenter” of progressive competitive swimming in the area.  To inspire team performance through individual excellence that is embraced by our athletes, coaches, parents, alumni, donors, and the surrounding community.  We aim to create a teaching and learning atmosphere where success is inevitable.

Teamwork, development, commitment, leadership, integrity, excellence, and fun.  We believe that when partnerships between swimmers, parents, and coaches are created, the program will meet the needs of the athletes and both the athlete and the program will be successful.
