So You Want to Try Luge?
Luge comes from the French phrase, “faire de la luge,” which means “sled.” Luge made its Olympic debut at the 1964 Innsbruck Games, but its origins date back to 16th century Switzerland where it began as a form of transportation. They had no idea that it would evolve into one of the most exciting sports on the planet.
No longer confined to wooden toboggans and rocky mountain paths, modern lugers can reach speeds up to 90 mph on their ultra-light sleds and meticulously constructed courses.
