BACKGROUND:

Greenhut’s dad is a Notre Dame grad, and much to his delight she appeared set to attend his alma mater after a standout basketball career at since-closed DeSales High School in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. Then fate, and Greenhut’s fierce independent streak, intervened and she instead headed west to Los Angeles to play Division I women’s basketball at Loyola Marymount. She worked at her dad’s car business out of college before setting off on her own. She eventually settled east of Philadelphia in the Chester Springs area, where she and her husband are raising two teenage girls (both basketball players). Speaking of basketball, Greenhut coaches girls' basketball at Bishop Shanahan. And she still plays two times a week in a men’s league. “It’s just a local league through LA Fitness,” she said. Competing against 20-year-olds isn’t a big deal, said Greenhut, who relies on her savvy and solid fundamentals to stay competitive. “I know the game,” she said. “I don’t turn over the ball, I make my shots.”

WHAT SHE DOES:

For years Bishop Shanahan’s athletic programs were running on multiple platforms, offering little consistency in branding or content from one sport to the next. “I wanted to brand it Shanahan and bring it all under one roof,” she said about a combined athletics website. After doing her research, she settled on SportsEngine, then went about the process of getting approval from the necessary parties. She likened the approval process to, “Building a bridge across the Grand Canyon.” But five presentations later, Greenhut got the approval to create a new site. Now she works with all the school’s athletic programs to ensure the calendar is updated with coming events and that coaches are schooled on how to add content to their pages. Skilled in shooting photos and creating videos, Greenhut’s photos and videos are scattered throughout the site. Several of the photos in the site’s background design were taken by Greenhut, and she created season highlight videos for the football, girls’ soccer and girls’ basketball teams.

MAKING HER MARK:

Greenhut is in charge of fundraising for the school’s new track and football field, and she helped raise $1.5 million in 18 months. A key part of the onging fundraising campaign (even though the new, sparkling facility is already in use) is a video created by Greenhut that shows Bishop Shanahan athletes in action.

FUN FACT:

Kelly Greenhut, a junior, and younger sister Kathryn, a freshman, are standout Bishop Shanahan athletes who, like their mom, stand around 6-feet tall and have the potential to play at the Division I level.
