Berean Christian athletic director Keith Huisman helps energize school's sports programs through his work as webmaster

Webmaster of the Week: February 2-8

NAME:
Keith Huisman

SITE:
Berean Christian School Athletics

POSITION:
Director of Athletics

BACKGROUND:
Huisman is in his fifth year as athletic director at Berean Christian School, a private school in West Palm Beach, Fla., with an enrollment of 740 students in grades pre-K through 12. He previously held the same role at his alma matter, Fort Lauderdale Christian School. The 6-foot-10 Huisman played basketball in high school and college (Trinity Christian College in Chicago). He and his wife, Adrienne, have 5- and 4-year-old daughters attending Berean Christian.

WHAT HE DOES:
Huisman moved Berean Christian’s athletics website to Sport Ngin’s Sitebuilder platform last year, in part to create a positive first impression for prospective parents and students. “I wanted the website to be alive and active,” he said. “I like the way it feels like ESPN a little bit.” Berean lists 10 sports in its high school program and also offers intramurals for younger students. Huisman loads the schedules and updates the scores for most sports, and that includes varsity teams all the way down to the elementary levels. He built out the Awards section that lists who received the Most Outstanding, Most Improved and Coach’s Award at the May athletic awards banquet. He also has created About sections that detail the mission and history of both Berean Christian and its athletics program.

MAKING HIS MARK:
Huisman has helped organize the regular live streaming of Bulldogs athletics events on the Berean Sports Network page, including all home football games and at least two basketball games a week. “We have a kid whose mom lives in Jamaica, and she has never seen him play basket ball,” Huisman said. “She was thrilled to be able to watch him play online.”
