Athletes to Watch: Caeleb Dressel

Since winning two relay golds in Rio, Dressel has become an international force; he won seven gold medals at 2017 Worlds (tying Michael Phelps’ record for most golds at a single World Championships), including three in one night – a feat that had never before been achieved.

Dressel turned pro in 2018 following his senior season at Florida. Dressel – the proud owner of a black lab named Jane – carries around a blue bandana, which had belonged to one of his high school teachers who died of cancer in November 2017, at every swim meet. She wore the bandana during her chemotherapy treatments, and Dressel plans to carry the bandana with him at meets for the foreseeable future.

After a difficult 2018 in which he struggled in the pool while trying to balance commitments as a professional outside the pool, he looks poised to add to his medal haul at the 2019 World Championships.
