NCHC's Michael Weisman plans and executes ambitious social media strategy

Webmaster of the Week: November 10-16

Name
Michael Weisman

Site
National Collegiate Hockey Conference

Position
Director of Communications

Background
Weisman didn’t get much of a warmup last fall, as he was hired just before the puck dropped on the NCHC’s inaugural season. Weisman, who graduated from Ohio Univeristy with a degree in journalism, spent four years working at Miami University in his native Oxford, Ohio, as assistant athletic communications director. He worked with the men’s hockey team – among other programs – during his final three years at Miami and coordinated the campaign that helped Andy Miele win the 2011 Hobey Baker Award.

What he does
Unlike his days at Miami, when he juggled multiple sports at one school, Weisman now works with multiple schools while focusing solely on men’s hockey. Weisman produces and packages almost all of the content that flows onto the NCHC site, including Players of the Week articles, weekend previews, game night recaps and Top 5 Goals of the Week. He also plans and executes the conference’s ambitious social media publishing schedule (Trivia Tuesday and Throwback Thursday are among the fan favorites). Weisman also monitors and helps manage corrections and updates to the statistics that flow live onto the site during games.

Making his mark:
Weisman meshes his social media skills with a love for giving away free goodies through several weekly contests. He manages a weekly Fan of the Week contest on Twitter as well as a fun and funny Caption Contest that sparks fan engagement on Instagram.
