Background:
Hockey was a mere afterthought – if it was a thought at all – for Marshall as he grew up in Wappingers Falls, New York, a town of about 5,500 that sits on the Hudson river, about 75 miles north of New York City. Marshall was a wrestler at Roy C. Ketcham High School and later became devoted to yoga. “No matter how good you get or how good people say you are, there are always things you can improve,” said Marshall, who has been practicing yoga for 40 years and incorporates it in his workout regimen six days a week. He also became an accomplished endurance athlete, running in 27 marathons before stopping when his son was born 10 years ago. As for hockey, “I had skated twice in my life before my son was born,” he said. The arrival of young Michael Marshall and a chance viewing of a classic hockey movie proved to be life-altering developments. “My son was five years old and when we saw the movie Miracle,” said Marshall, a computer programmer. “He became obsessed with hockey after that.”
What he does:
Marshall helped the New Jersey-based Cranford Hockey Club transition onto the Sport Ngin platform last year. While much of the content touting the club’s rich history (it was founded 60 years ago) existed on the old site, Marshall helped organize and format most of the pages in the extensive About Us section. He also created the team pages for the club, which has 185 players registered for the 2016-17 season, and he encourages coaches to provide updated content to their pages. He oversees all of the club’s registrations and also is in charge of getting schedules for all the teams posted.
Making his mark:
Marshall also has encouraged use of the mobile app. He adds a link to the location field of every game, allowing parents accessing team schedules on the mobile app to simply just click the location link to get directions.
