Don’t Cheat Your Body, Recover Smart After Summer Workouts

While increased activity is great for your health and wellness, it places an extra demand on your body to recover.

The more exercise you do, the more recovery time your body needs

With summer here, many of us ramp up our training and competing. We run more, bike more, swim more, play more soccer, baseball, basketball, golf, beach volleyball, and ultimate Frisbee, as well as doing a few extra planks, presses, and curls in the gym so we look our best when we wear less. And if you play a winter sport like hockey, then summer might be the time you train hard for the season to come.

Give Your Body a Break. And Some Help.

While this increased activity is great for your health and wellness, it places an extra demand on your body to recover.

The more exercise you do, the more recovery time your body needs.

This is true whether you’re a professional athlete or a weekend warrior. Training and sports create damage inside your body that you might otherwise overlook. Failure to plan for recovery between exercise sessions can lead to an increased risk of injury or illness. It can also cause you to “hit a wall” in terms athletic improvement.

You Can’t Cheat Recovery

What does smart recovery involve? It starts with the basics – sufficient time off from training or playing, getting enough sleep, and eating right. Adding the right combination of nutritional supplements can also be key, especially when you’re pushing yourself to excel, and especially in the summer, when heat and sweat takes a lot out of you – literally.

Thorne has put together what we call our Recovery Bundle – three supplements that will help you recover if you are taking your training and playing seriously. Although they are valuable all year long, summer is the very best time to start making them part of your recovery routine.

Athlete Recovery Bundle – Catalyte, Meriva and Whey Protein Isolate

Hydration and electrolyte balance are essential for all levels of exercise and athletic performance.

Catalyte contains potassium, calcium, magnesium, and zinc, thus replacing the primary electrolytes lost in sweat, while also helping to repair and rebuild muscle.  Catalyte combines these electrolytes with B vitamins, vitamin C, and D-ribose for broad-spectrum nutrient repletion and cell hydration.

Meriva is a curcumin supplement that maintains a healthy inflammatory response throughout your body and provides relief from the overuse of muscles and joints, as well as post-exercise soreness.  Normally, curcumin is poorly absorbed in the bloodstream, whether it comes from food or a nutritional supplement.

Meriva is a curcumin phytosome and the most clinically studied curcumin on the market.  It is a unique curcumin extract with significantly better absorption than other curcumin extracts. In fact, a human study demonstrated 29-times greater absorption from Meriva than from ordinary curcumin.

Whey Protein Isolate supports fitness training, weight management, or just maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It provides 21 grams of protein per serving in an optimally absorbed isolate form and with no artificial sweeteners.

Whey Protein Isolate is low in sugar, calories, and fat, and it’s easy to digest.  It features a balanced amino acids profile, including lysine and arginine and the branched-chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine, which allow your body to better utilize the protein.

NSF Certified for Sport®

Because an athlete needs to know that his or her supplements are trustworthy and compliant, every batch of an NSF Certified for Sport® product is tested for compliance with label claims and to ensure the absence of more than 200 substances banned by many major athletic organizations, including stimulants, narcotics, steroids, diuretics, beta-2 agonists, and masking agents.

Summer is a great time to improve your recovery routine.
