Teach Your Defenders How to Maintain Leverage

The vice drill is a great way to teach players about leverage and working with their teammates to make a tackle.

The ability to keep leverage and make a tackle on a ball carrier can be one of the most difficult aspects of tackling.

By using the vice drill players will be able to develop the necessary skills to keep their leverage on the ball carrier while working with a teammate. The setup of the drill is pretty simple. There is a ball carrier and two defenders space about 15 yards apart.

On the whistle the ball carrier has the freedom the run and try to break contain of the defenders. The defenders must work together to keep their leverage and make the tackle.
